Clients often ask us about the best places to work and what makes them so desirable. Using the most recent Glassdoor Best Places to Work report, we took a peek at a few of the people programs that stood out to us as being unique, aligned with their employer brand, and supporting the kind of culture they want to build. Here are a few winning ideas from 3 of the top ranked organizations.
- Shopify
One initiative that stands out at Shopify is their Hack Days. These 48 hour events where all employees (from new hires to executives) attempt to start and finish a project that will improve the Shopify program allows employees from all areas of the organization to work together and take a break from their regular roles for 2 days straight. One of the best parts that employees say is that these Hack Days start with a catered breakfast to get their creative juices flowing.
- Ceridian
Ceridian instantly provides a clear image of a fun workplace, largely in part to their Fun@Work initiative. Ceridian has a FUN program which solely focuses on fun events and activities for employees including sports leagues, Tough Mudder participation, employee BBQs, and Game Days. Having a fun workplace can really boost employee engagement which in turn will positively increase productivity and Ceridian has made this a priority to be a FUN workplace.
- Cisco Systems
Cisco’s #WeareCisco’s Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram pages provides candidates with a real-life look at what life is like working at Cisco. All 3 of these accounts showcase stories of real employees from around the globe using a very conversational tone. Cisco’s recruiting blog also showcases their employees, featuring many of its posts using employees content directly from their social media pages. Employees are able to share their own stories and current and future talent is able to learn about Cisco’s recruiting process while learning a lot about employees at the same time.
What are you doing to develop a top employer brand in 2017? Like these three companies it starts from the inside.
